What Is A Jim Hensley Hitch
If you love to travel, spend time outdoors, or go on long road trips, you may be considering purchasing a travel trailer. However, no matter where your adventures take you, it's crucial to remember the importance of safely towing your trailer. The ProPride 3P® Jim Hensley Hitch is the most advanced hitch design on the market that can completely eliminate trailer sway. This hitch, named after its creator, is the most trusted and reliable option for ensuring a safe and enjoyable towing experience.
History of the Jim Hensley Hitch
Jim Hensley is the creator of both the ProPride 3P® hitch and the Hensley Arrow® hitch. He holds several patents for these hitches, which he has always owned and licensed to Hensley Mfg. and ProPride, Inc. ProPride also owns and holds licenses for patents related to the 3P hitch.

Jim Hensley developed a prototype of his converging link design in 1972 and found that it worked well. In 1976, he conducted a patent search and discovered that his concept was unique. He then set up, built, and sold the Eliminator Towing System on his own. In 1993, Colin Connell approached Jim about the Eliminator after using it on his travel trailer. Impressed with the product, Colin wanted to manufacture it and obtained a license for the patent from Jim, who agreed. Colin then established Hensley Mfg. Inc. to produce and sell the hitch, now known as the "Hensley Arrow® Hitch."
Jim continued to come up with innovative solutions that were not implemented by Hensley Mfg. Sean Woodruff, a former vice president, left the company due to this and other reasons. The ProPride 3P® hitch, developed by Jim Hensley and Sean Woodruff, is the most advanced hitch designed by Jim Hensley. It was unveiled in October 2007 and is considered the best in its class for engineered designs.
What is a Jim Hensley Hitch?
The Jim Hensley Hitch, also known as a Pivot Point Projection (3P) or sway-control hitch, is designed for towing bumper-pulled trailers. It operates differently from other hitches because it is attached to the trailer coupler, rather than the tow vehicle. This prevents pivoting on the hitch ball and eliminates the side-to-side movement of a bumper-towed trailer by projecting the pivot point forward. By projecting the pivot point 52 inches forward to the tow vehicle's rear axle and preventing side-to-side movement, this hitch effectively turns your bumper-towed trailer into a fifth wheel, eliminating trailer sway. In addition, the ProPride 3P® Jim Hensley Hitch features weight distribution jacks that help distribute weight more evenly and balance the connection between the vehicle and trailer.
The ProPride 3P® Jim Hensley Hitch is recognized as the most advanced hitch ever made. Its exceptional welding techniques are carefully supervised to ensure perfect welds every time. To manufacture the different components of the hitch - the Main Unit, Yoke, Weight Distribution Jacks, and Adjustable Hitch Bars - the ProPride 3P® Jim Hensley Hitch employs four robotic welders working at all times.
ProPride 3P® Jim Hensley Hitch Components
What is a ProPride 3P® Main Unit? The ProPride 3P® Main Unit is a component of an anti-sway trailer hitch that consists of two 3/4" thick links. These links project the pivot point of the trailer forward, near the rear axle of the tow vehicle. This prevents the trailer from pivoting side-to-side on the ball, eliminating trailer sway. | | |

| What is a ProPride 3P® Adjustable Hitch Bar? The ProPride 3P® Adjustable Hitch Bar is an improved version of the non-adjustable offset that was included with the original Jim Hensley hitch design. It allows for multiple offset positions to ensure that your trailer is level while towing. The tilt feature of the bar helps to distribute weight evenly and keeps the ProPride 3P® hitch head in a level position. This enhances your towing experience by improving stability and handling. |
While you're on the road towing your trailer, the last thing you want to worry about is experiencing trailer sway. If you're looking for a hitch to help mitigate this issue, why not consider one that can completely eliminate it? This way, you can focus on enjoying your trip rather than worrying about your trailer.
