Ask About the Hitch’s History

Start by asking the seller:

• What trailer was the hitch used with?
• What was the trailer’s loaded tongue weight?
• Which weight-distribution bars are included?
• Has the hitch ever been involved in an accident?
• Has any component been welded, drilled, heated, or modified?
• Are the installation hardware and adjustable hitch bar included?
• Why is the hitch being sold?
• Is the serial number available?
• Are manuals or original records included?

Walk away from a system with unexplained structural repairs, visible cracking, severe bending, or unauthorized modifications.

ProPride’s warranty terms exclude damage related to improper installation, overloading, unauthorized alterations, and the use of unapproved extensions or add-ons.

Inspect the Main Hitch Unit

Look closely at the main unit and Pivot Point Projection™ components.

Check for:

• Cracks around welds or structural sections
• Bent or distorted links
• Deep corrosion or metal loss
• Elongated pin holes
• Missing hardware
• Excessive movement or looseness
• Evidence of grinding or welding
• Damaged bearing areas
• Uneven wear

Light cosmetic surface rust may be repairable, but structural corrosion should be evaluated by ProPride before the hitch is used.

Inspect the Spring Bars and Jacks

Confirm that the spring bars are straight and properly rated for your trailer’s loaded hitch weight.

Do not assume the bars used by the previous owner are correct for your trailer. ProPride offers different weight-distribution capacities, and the appropriate selection is based on actual loaded hitch weight.

Inspect the weight-distribution jacks for:

• Bent components
• Damaged threads
• Missing pins
• Cracked welds
• Uneven operation
• Severe corrosion
• Signs that the brackets slipped on the trailer frame

Confirm All Parts Are Included

A low purchase price may become less attractive if several important components are missing.

Verify the system includes the appropriate :

• Main hitch unit
• Adjustable hitch bar
• One-piece yoke
• Weight-distribution jacks
• Spring bars
• Frame brackets
• Pins and locking hardware
• Chains and related connection hardware

The hitch bar must also match the tow vehicle’s receiver size and provide the correct rise or drop for a level trailer.

Understand the Warranty Difference

The ProPride lifetime warranty applies to the original purchaser and is non-transferable. A person buying the hitch secondhand does not automatically receive the original owner’s warranty coverage.

Measure your trailer frame, coupler height, loaded hitch weight, receiver height, and tow vehicle suspension. Install and adjust the system according to the current ProPride manual.
